Arturo Sandoval

Born in Artemisa, Cuba in 1949, Arturo Sandoval, mentored by jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie, has become a global jazz trumpet and flugelhorn virtuoso. He’s also recognized for his classical talent, piano skills, and composition. Sandoval, a charismatic live performer, has graced the Oscars, GRAMMY® Awards, and Billboard Awards, clinching 10 GRAMMY® Awards and 6 Billboard Awards while being nominated 19 times. He even received an Emmy for the score of HBO’s For Love or Country, a film about his life starring Andy Garcia. His recent GRAMMY®-winning albums, Dear Diz and Tango, are internationally available.

Arturo’s newest release, Eternamente Manzanero, pays tribute to Mexican musician Armando Manzanero. He’s the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom (2013) and authored a book about his bond with Dizzy Gillespie, titled The Man Who Changed My Life. As a founding member of Irakere, a GRAMMY®-winning group, he blended jazz, classical, rock, and Cuban music. In 1981, he formed his band and gained global acclaim.

Arturo’s classical expertise is evident in his trumpet concerto and performances with prestigious symphonies. He recorded John Williams’ Trumpet Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra. His work spans collaborations with Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Herman and more. He’s played with John Williams and Tony Bennett, contributed to film scores and also composed ballet and theater music. His journey from Cuba and his artistic feats motivate him to share his musical passion. Beyond his virtuosic technical abilities and high notes, Arturo’s diversity in jazz, Latin, and classical music showcases his brilliance, making him a multifaceted musical luminary.
